Restaurants in Providencia
Fishing and tourism are Providencia's main industries, so almost all the restaurants specialize in fresh seafood. Lobsters, calamari, fish and the local speciality black crab abound, all cooked in a traditionally Caribbean style.
Many of the hotels have restaurants attached, but better food (and lower prices) are often found at the various restaurants that are not attached to the hotels. In Freshwater Bay (Bahia Aguadulce), there's a good pizza restaurant called Pizza Place, in addition to a variety of excellent dishes at Caribbean Place (alternatively called Donde Martin). Cabanas Aguadulce (Freshwater Bay) also has a decent restaurant. A little further North on the main road towards Santa Isabel there's a great little pasta restaurant called Il Postino, which is only open for dinner during the high season. On the road between Freshwater Bay and South West Bay, the restaurant Cafe Studio serves fine food and great juices. In South West Bay there are a range of beach front restaurants serving traditional dishes. Santa Isabel, the administrative "capital" of Providencia, doesn't have any decent restaurants of note, though you can pick up a cheap meal here or head to the bakers (panaderia) for some great snacks. One of best restaurants is found on Santa Catalina Island - the restaurant Bamboo has a beautiful and romantic setting overlooking Providencia, serves fine food and has very reasonable prices too.
Nightlife
Karaoke, after dinner entertainment shows and discos just don't exist on the blissfully undeveloped island of Providencia. If you seek a happening nightlife, you're better off visiting the neighbouring island of San Andres.
